5.-Dinar. Considered by many the most beautiful of all chess stamps. A chessboard appears in front of the globe and two clouds. The continents on the globe only barely resemble their actual shape. The 5 dinar value was the rate for letters of up to 20 grams sent to foreign countries.
Of special interest is the position on the chessboard. It is taken from the famous game, between Capablanca and Lasker from the 1924 New York Tournament. Capablanca won the game; Lasker won the tournment. Note that the black bishop should be on g8 rather than f8 as shown on the stamp.
Capablanca v Lasker, New York, 1924
Emanuel Lasker won the 1924 New York tournament, losing only one game to Capablanca. This extremely complex game won the 3rd brilliancy prize. Lasker missed a drawing opportunity with 37...Bf7 rather than 37...Qe6. The game is well annotated in Capablanca's 100 Best Games of Chess.
